The fire that broke out in the Cyber Greens towers on Saturday has finally awakened the administration from slumber. The deputy commissioner of Gurgaon, Anurag Agarwal said, ``We do realise the need to buy hydraulic ladders, but due to their nonavailability in India they will have to be imported. For this purpose, Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) had deposited money with the state civil supplies department about three years ago.''
The commissioner added that as the civil supplies department is not authorised to buy any equipment from abroad, the matter was taken up by the director general of supplies and disposal (DGSD) under the central ministry. About Rs 8 crore was then deposited with the DGSD by the state government.
Two tenders have been issued in this regard. The technical specifications are being looked into and will take a couple of months. Meetings are thus being arranged with the state civil supplies department, HUDA and the central ministry.
As far as the vacant posts in the fire stations of sector 29 and the city are concerned, the issue will be soon chased up.
Meanwhile DLF officials had internal meetings during the day and decided to intensify the in-built backups.
The officials also discussed a proposal to form a team trained in fire-fighting techniques.
