One Carriageway Over Neela Hauz Opened, Ride To Airport Is Now Signal-FreeBy akansha, Section Roads in Gurgaon ![]() SMOOTH RIDE: The other half of the six-lane bridge on Aruna Asaf Ali Marg will be opened by March-end One carriageway of the new bridge over Neela Hauz was opened for traffic on Monday providing relief to scores of commuters headed to Vasant Kunj, IGI Airport and Gurgaon. With the opening of the bridge and all three flyovers on Outer Ring Road, the ride from south Delhi to Mehrauli-Mahipalpur road and the airport has become completely signal-free. The new six-lane road, which has come up over a water body, will considerably reduce travel time for road users. Even as only half the bridge has been opened, the traffic police maintained that vehicles running in both directions will be allowed on it. "I have been waiting for the construction to be completed so that I can use this road to reach my office at Nehru Place. The flyovers on Outer Ring Road have also been opened and should save at least 30 minutes now,'' said Ratnesh Gandhi, a resident of D-2 in Vasant Kunj. The construction of the remaining portion of the bridge will be completed by March. The 325m-long bridge has been constructed at a cost of Rs 34.45 crore and has 2m-wide cycle tracks on either side in addition to pedestrian footpaths. It was inaugurated by Delhi Assembly Speaker Yoganand Shastri and Public Works Department (PWD) minister Rajkumar Chauhan. "Now, there is uninterrupted connectivity from IGI Airport to Games Village,'' said Chauhan. Source: Times Of India New bridge brings IGI closer to S Delhi Click on "Full Story" For More....
The traffic police said the opening of the new stretch will reduce congestion on key arteries like MG Road and Dhaula Kuan as several commuters are expected to use this as a short-cut to Vasant Kunj, IGI Airport and Gurgaon. The other access to Vasant Kunj, Nelson Mandela Road, is anyway a wide passage but this is a much shorter route.
Speaking at the inauguration, Chauhan reiterated that all Games projects will be completed within their deadlines and PWD is constantly monitoring the progress of each project. The pace of work is being accelerated. Chauhan added: "There will be a sea-change in Delhi during the Commonwealth Games. The hosting of such a prestigious international event has provided the city an excellent opportunity to undertake development works. We have got this chance after 1982. The state government has undertaken a comprehensive exercise of modernisation of streetlights, greening and streetscaping. Apart from this, a beautification drive to give an attractive look underneath the flyovers is also on.''
